About me

A life with languages

Hello, thanks for stopping by. 👋

My name is Katerina Nikita and I wear many hats - I am a translator, copywriter and editor.

Born and raised in Athens, my native language is Greek. My first foreign language was English, shortly followed by German. During my teenage years, I would attend summer language schools abroad, both in the UK and Germany.

This nurtured my love for languages and traveling, and led to my decision to study abroad. After finishing high school, I moved to Germany to pursue a BA in Language, Culture & Translation at the Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz

Upon completing my BA in 2015, I knew that I wanted to delve deeper into translation and choose a specialisation whilst continuing to study and live in an international campus. As a result, I made my way to Manchester, UK, where I graduated with a MA in Translation and Interpreting Studies from the University of Manchester in 2016. My areas of specialisation included audiovisual translation, translation technologies and translation for international organisations.

In autumn of 2016, I moved to London where I have been living ever since and started freelancing as a translator, editor and copywriter on a part-time basis. I currently balance this with my 9-to-5 as a Senior Content Manager at a digital marketing agency, There I hone my skills as a language services and cultural consultancy specialist, and help some of the world's biggest and most exciting web, tech, fitness and food brands localise their content in a manner that allows them to go truly global (or should I say truly local?!)

As a result, I have gained valuable experience in website and app localisation, translation of e-commerce and social media content, subtitling, and transcreation of marketing materials for a variety of channels by working with both language service providers and direct clients.

In addition to the above, since 2019 I have been working together with the team at Omilo Greek Language & Culture, an independent private school offering Greek courses for adults, and creating content for their blog, newsletter and social media channels in both Greek and English. I have also contributed to several of their bilingual eBook publications both by writing original copy and by translating texts.
